What was the project? What was the brief?

The project aimed to create a flagship store for Rixo that embodies colorful maximalism with modern details, housing accessories, bridal wear, rentals, and true vintage items all under one roof. The design required a seamless flow with a compartmentalized yet open-plan layout.

Building on this brief, the team transformed a hexagonal-shaped building into a circular one, featuring an enormous bar in the central rotunda. The goal was to create a hive of activity at the front of the shop, with multiple attractions to draw customers, for instance, nip in for a coffee, or for alterations.

A distinctive bridal suite was designed to feel entirely different from the rest of the flagship. The team envisioned it as a living room-like space where the bride-to-be and her entourage could spend hours browsing and ordering drinks from the bar, offering a relaxed and inviting environment.

The client dashboard feature was particularly beneficial, allowing us to present multiple options to the client, such as furniture pieces, which they could approve at their convenience.

What were the challenges? How did you overcome these?

One of the primary challenges was the tight lead time for bespoke elements, which had to be completed within six weeks. To overcome this, we implemented meticulous planning and efficient project management. We prioritized key tasks, streamlined our processes, and coordinated closely with suppliers and craftsmen to ensure timely delivery without compromising on quality.

It was essential that the space did not feel intimidating or overwhelming to visitors. To address this, we focused on creating a warm and welcoming environment. We incorporated a balanced mix of colors, textures, and materials to add depth and character, ensuring the space felt approachable and comfortable.

We started with a whitewashed, featureless space, which initially posed a significant design challenge. Understanding that the rotunda's skylight would be the focal point, we designed the entire space around this feature. The skylight became a central element, bringing in natural light and creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. This allowed us to build a cohesive design that emphasized openness and flow, while the bespoke bar and strategically placed elements added layers of interest and functionality.

What features does the practice use? How have they aided your scheduling & specification?

The procurement tab was invaluable for keeping track of the various stages of production and deliveries across multiple projects. By providing a comprehensive overview, it allowed us to monitor progress closely and ensure that nothing was delayed. Checking this every morning became a routine that helped maintain the project’s momentum.

The client dashboard feature was particularly beneficial, allowing us to present multiple options to the client, such as furniture pieces, which they could approve at their convenience. This flexibility eliminated the need for constant meetings and expedited the decision-making process.

Programa provided a centralized platform for storing all project specifications, which could be accessed from anywhere. This facilitated seamless communication and collaboration among the team and contractors.

The product library within Programa allowed us to streamline our approach, particularly with the RIXO stores. It enabled us to manage their core products across different projects efficiently, drastically cutting down the time required for procurement and coordination.

The ability to manage and access all project details in one place allowed us to focus more on creativity and innovation, knowing that the logistical aspects were under control.
